About us

556210_306687062736083_167916273_n1st Port of Galway Sea Scouts are a vibrant, energetic Scouting group. We have youth members ranging from 6 years to 18 years, in five active sections; Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers. We follow an exciting programme based on the national adventure skills framework, including sailing, paddling, hillwalking, pioneering, backwoods and camping.

As sea scouts our program is based both on land and water. Winter activities include nautical training, first aid, hillwalking and camping. Summers are spent on the water, sailing , kayaking , rowing and power boating. All sections attend annual camps all over the country during these months.  Sections often attend national and international camps as well.

At the heart of scouting is youth empowerment, our members tell the leaders what they want to do, not the other way arounds. Youth members are  taught how to run their own programme.

We have185136_342623909142398_1846040021_n team of committed and experienced leaders, who turn out whatever the weather, to hike, build campfires or build pioneering structures. All of our leaders are Garda vetted and trained in national child protection. More information can be found here.

Scouting Ireland is the largest youth based organisation in Ireland,  with 45,000 members. Once a youth member joins our groups, they will join over one billion other people who have called themselves Scouts.

Every four years we participate in the Dutch National Sea Scout festival known as Nawaka, with the report of our 2022 trip available here
